Album Stream: She & Him ‘Classics’

Next Tuesday marks the major-label debut from She & Him, the duo of M. Ward and Zooey Deschanel. They’ll release their new album Classics, a collection of old jazz and pop standards that serves as a bit of a Swiss-army gift for ladies going into holiday season.

Need a gift for mom? She’ll be way down with Frank Sinatra’s “Time After Time,” Goffin and King’s “Oh No, Not My Baby,” and Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong’s “Stars Fell On Alabama.” Your sister’s undoubtedly all about the girl from Elf who sings pretty, and she’ll get a Pinterest kick out of the album’s quaint quirkiness with a Winter Wonderland edge.

Similar in scope to 2011’s A Very She & Him Christmas, which featured a run of favored Christmas covers, Classics reshapes vintage pop numbers such as “Unchained Melody,” featuring a 20-piece orchestra and breathy vocals from Deschanel. Listen to the entire thing over at NPR, or below.
