Win a ‘Gold Digger’ Guitar Pedal With Black Light White Light’s New Album Inside!

How the hell does a band stand out in the unending avalanche of new music releases these days? A kickass record is a clear mandate, but it’ll only mean a band qualifies for deserving a shot. The delivery method is important, as well as package design, promotion and the like. But when a band releases their album through a fantastically badass distortion guitar pedal, as Black Light White Light has done with their latest offering, Gold Into Dreams, we’re definitely giving it a spin.

The results? We’re very much down with these sounds. Even better – we’re hooking one lucky winner up with the band’s ‘Gold Digger’ fuzz pedal, containing the band’s new second album for download/stream inside.

Black Light White Light, comprised of singer/guitarist Martin Ejlersten, and brothers Adam and Tobias Winberg on drums and bass, have a knack for infusing shoegaze psych-rock with coastal 60’s pop sunshine, featuring infectious guitar leads and melodies made to be locked in the mind. Imagine if Black Rebel Motorcycle Club had a little more psychedelia to their trip, and a lot more experimental excitement.

To deliver Gold Into Dreams in a unique way, Black Light White Light aligned with pedal maker Dave Adkins/LooperStar and designers M&E to create a fuzz pedal that could capture the spirit of 60’s bands, but also get into experimental electronic crazyiness at a flick of a switch. The basic fuzz is sculpted using the Gain and Tone controls with the Shape knob adding a more retro gated quality to sound. Engaging the Dig switch brings the Gold knob into play allowing you to go digging for sounds of oscillation, electronic bleeps and lower octave synth tones.

“I got really inspired to create a different packing for the pedal after seeing a documentary about The Flaming Lips with a sequence about their Gummy Skull EP release where you had to eat the skull to get hands on the USB connector inside with the songs on it,” Martin explains. “I love that idea. It’s crazy and but makes sense in a really different way. It captures the spirit of the band. I wanted to do something similar with our release but instead create something that would last. Both packing and content.”

“I love the outcome of what we have done here,” Ejlersten continues. “Obviously what makes this pedal so special is that the album is inside for download or stream. That we have been able to actually make this crazy idea come true and work this great is beyond what I imagined. But I have to stress that this pedal looks and sounds amazing. It’s one of the best of not the best fuzz pedals I have ever played with so diverse features and possibilities. To me this packing is totally unique. A fantastic sounding guitar pedal you’d love playing, which also looks like a piece of art when holding it in your hands and with music inside to listen to. I really feel we succeeded coming up with a idea of alternative release not just different but also wise and beautiful where both packing and content are firmly linked and where both can be used again and again – even together.”

The pedal also includes a 3.5mmm headphone style USB socket and cable to download Gold Into Dreams, making it the first pedal/album available, ever. Check out a video of the pedal in action below:
