Snoop Dogg Leads $20k Crowdfunding Effort For Youth Football

Snoop Dogg has long been an ardent supporter of youth football, but the rapper is now reaching deep to help out a league in Des Moines, Iowa.

A new campaign on crowdfunding site Tilt has been kicked off to raise money for the Inner City Urban Development youth football league, with a target goal of $20,000. The funds will go to new helmets and equipment for all 200 players in the league. As of publish time, nearly $6,100 had been raised — $5,000 of which came directly from Snoop.

In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, Snoop made it clear that the issue is close to his heart.

“I know the money raised by this Tilt campaign will provide these Des Moines youth with essential tools for success,” Snoop said. “I’ve seen with my own eyes how these programs can change lives. They go beyond the field, it teaches kids skills for life.”

“Over 10 years ago, I started the Snoop Youth Football League (SYFL) in LA. My commitment to youth football programs is a cause that is close to my heart and I’m looking to you to help support these kids. Together, we can help fund this League that teaches our youth the most important life skills: dedication, teamwork, and sportsmanship. I’m pitching in $5,000 myself to start this off. Help me help these kids!!”

Snoop’s efforts aren’t just charity designations. The Snoop Youth Football League in L.A. has seen the rapper serving as both a coach and mentor in the league, which has helped thousands of local boys and girls.
