Diego Costa Will Play Against Manchester City

Diego Costa is set to play for Chelsea against Manchester City, despite his hamstring problems.

Mourinho has stated that Costa, who has scored seven in four matches since joining the Premier League this season, will be unable to play more than once a week due to a hamstring injury he suffered with during an international match, though the importance of Chelsea’s meeting with Man City has led to the manager insisting that he will be a part of their starting eleven.

Chelsea currently sit atop the Premier League table in its early stages, with Man City in fifth place. Both are deemed among the favourites to take home the trophy this year, so Mourinho is hoping that his £32 million summer signing will improve their chances of defeating last year’s winners.

“Diego is not in the best conditions, but he will start the game. He plays this game, he cannot play against Bolton. It’s as simple as that”, Mourinho said. “I know clearly that we have to try to protect him until he gets completely fit.”

Chelsea’s meeting with Manchester City could potentially see Frank Lampard square off against his old club for the very first time, even though the former Blues captain has only made one appearance for City thus far, playing one half of football against Arsenal. When asked whether it would be odd to have his team face off against of the London club’s most successful players, Mourinho responded: “No. It’s football.”
