Exclusive: Alain Johannes & Friends Join Hifiklub For Niagara Cover

Occasionally a wild fish will land on your hook, and it’s so strange and beautiful you can’t help but want to show others. Such is the case with a new collaborative cover track from Hifiklub, featuring Alain Johannes of Queens of The Stone Age, Them Crooked Vultures, Eleven and more. Joining them on the cover of Niagara’s “Pendant Que Les Champs Brulent” is former QOTSA drummer Joey Castillo and Dave Catching of Eagles of Death Metal.

The track is taken from Plans Make Gods Laugh, a collaborative film centering on Alain, directed by french artist Arnaud Maguet and produced by Hiiklub. The film and accompanying album will be available later this Fall.

“We shot it in the Mojave desert in September 2013, recording the soundtrack (Hifiklub 5th album) live every night on a mobile studio,” Hifiklub bassist Régis Laugier explains. “An hour before taking our flight back to France we recorded at Alain studio a cover of a french band called Niagara, ‘Pendant Que Les Champs Brulent’. We had time for just one take, but we did it. We recorded it with Joey Castillo on drums (so we got two drums playing together) and David Catching on guitar. “

The track was produced, recorded & mixed by Alain at 11AD studio in Los Angeles and mastered by Sarah Register at The Lodge in New York – listen below:
