Dead Rising 3’s PC Version Has a 30 FPS Cap, Here’s How to Uncap It

This Friday the 5th Dead Rising 3 Apocalypse Edition will become available on Steam. For those who missed out on its exclusive Xbox One release last year, this is not only an opportunity to see what it’s all about, but with the benefits of a much more powerful gaming PC.

Due to optimizations set in place in the original Xbox One release, the PC port version of Dead Rising 3 comes equipped with a 30 FPS cap. However, you don’t have to let the game enforce a sub-optimal framerate on you. Instead, all you have to do are two simple steps to uncap the framerate. Here they are:

1. Create a “user.ini” file in the same folder as deadrising3.exe (for Windows 8.1 users it’s located at: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common).

2. Enter the following line in the file: “gmpcr_unlock_frame_rate = True” (no quotes).

Note: Uncapping the framerate may cause issues. If you encounter any technical problems, try capping the framerate to see if this alteration caused it.

That’s all you need to do. If you have any trouble with the steps outlined, post a comment below and I’ll be glad to assist you.
