Here’s Frank Lampard in a Manchester City Shirt

Chelsea fans, close your eyes: this might be difficult to see.

Frank Lampard has been pictured for the first time wearing a Manchester City shirt, after it was revealed that he would be moving to the Premier League side on loan from his new club New York City FC. Here it is (don’t say we didn’t warn you):

Weird, isn’t it? While we knew this day was coming, it’s still undoubtedly odd to witness the Chelsea veteran donning his rival’s kit.

After 13 years playing for the London club, fans are understandably surprised that the next club he’ll be lending his talents to will be one of Chelsea’s Premier League rivals. However, the move has been approved by Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho, who insisted that he has “no problem” with the club’s former captain moving to Man City.

Mourinho said:  “He is a free agent, he can choose his club so there’s no problem at all. When he comes to Stamford Bridge he is welcome.”

Lampard’s move has been criticised by some, including Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger due to New York City FC and Manchester City both being owned by the City Football Group. Many feel that Lampard transferring to the MLS club only to immediately be loaned out to City breaches Uefa’s Financial Fair Play rules, and that it was the City Football Group’s intention to have him play for Man City all along.
