Gamescom 2014: The PS4 Has Sold Over 10 Million Units to Consumers in 9 Months

Sony has confirmed on-stage during its Gamescom press conference that the PS4 has surpassed the 10 million units sold mark. It emphasized that these are units sold through to consumers, not just shipped to retailers.

The PS4 released in November 2013 to record-breaking sales. It has remained in extremely high-demand throughout its first nine months on the market, putting it on pace to become one of the three best-selling consoles in history.

In contrast, the Xbox One has only been confirmed to have five million units sold through to retailers. Early on, it was anywhere between 50 – 66% percent behind in sales compared to the PS4. Now the PS4 might actually have twice as many consoles in homes around the globe.

The PS4 was announced to have nine million units sold in early July, meaning it has sold around one million units in a month that many would consider to be the most dry of any in the gaming industry.
