Nintendo Wanted Grim Fandango on Wii U But Was Denied

Former Nintendo indie boss Dan Adelman has been openly sharing his two cents on everything Nintendo-related since his departure from the company, and his latest omission regarding the recently announced Grim Fandango HD remake for the PS4, PS Vita and PC reveals how Nintendo had failed to secure the classic adventure game for its own consoles.

Speaking via his ask.fm profile, Adelman fielded a question regarding which games he worked really hard on getting to a Nintendo console, but failed to do so. Adelman replied: “Grim Fandango. I mentioned the idea of an HD remake to Tim Schafer about 7-8 years ago. I was so jealous that PlayStation got that. Curse you, Adam Boyes!”

Grim Fandango will be a PlayStation console exclusive when it releases, with the Wii U and Xbox One being left out to dry by its creator Tim Schafer and the folks at Double Fine. Originally developed by LucasArts, the game attracted waves of critical admiration when it was first released back in 1998, and the announcement of a remake has excited many.

Adelman resigned from Nintendo earlier this week after he was prohibited from using his Twitter account by the company. Nintendo had reportedly banned him from using Twitter after he openly criticized the 3DS’ region-locking, with Adelman responding to this move by handing in his notice. Writing on Twitter, Adelman said of his departure from the company: “Happy to announce I reached an arrangement w/ @NintendoAmerica whereby I can tweet again. Arrangement includes my not working there anymore.”
