Cold Chisel To Play Clipsal 500

Cold Chisel have announced a one-night-only hometown show to take place during the Clipsal 500 Adelaide. The Australian rock icons will return to the city where they first started as a band to celebrate 40 years at the forefront of Aussie rock and roll.

“The Clipsal 500 Adelaide is the biggest event on the V8 Supercars calendar, and the concerts are huge and notorious, so for us it was a great fit, a no-brainer,” said frontman Jimmy Barnes in a statement. “It was one those things where the event really suited the band and the timing was just right – a perfect storm.”

Chisel will headline 2015’s “huge and notorious” Sunday night concert on March 1. Barnes told News Limited their first show together since 2012 and their first Adelaide performance since 2011 will be an opportunity “to get out there and party and shake things up a bit.”

“We’re not going to be playing ballads so the plan is for the V8s to be catching up with us,” he said. The band say fans can also expect some new material during the show, as they’ve been hard at work on a follow-up to 2012’s No Plans.

“We’ll probably have an album’s worth of songs to release next year,” said Barnes. “Fast cars, fast women and fast rock and roll — it’s perfect.” Meanwhile, the band will release Live Tapes Vol. 2 in November, a recording of the band’s 1979 show at The Bombay Rock in Victoria, previously only available as a bootleg.

Tickets for the Clipsal 500 concert go on sale 9am this Friday through Ticketek.
