Damon Albarn: The Next Blur Album “May Never Come Out”

Damon Albarn has admitted what we’d all suspected – that the new Blur album might not be happening after all.

Albarn had been working on Blur’s comeback album alongside the rest of the band since 2013, but he’s now revealed that they may never pick up where they left off after recording a selection of new tracks in Asia.

Speaking to NME, Albarn said: “There are about 15 songs we recorded in Hong Kong. The annoying thing is, if I’d been able to write the lyrics there and then about being there, we’d have finished the record. But sometimes, if you can’t do it all at once, it dissipates really and I don’t know what I’d sing about now with that record. There’s some great tunes on there, but it may just be one of those records that never comes out.”

Albarn, who recently released his debut solo album Everyday Robots, stated that the reasoning behind the new Blur album perhaps remaining unfinished was due to him preferring to record music in shorter periods of time, meaning that he may not return to the tracks Blur laid down in Hong Kong. He continued: “Sometimes it’s great to get some amazing energy and do something in 10 days. There was too much commuting between where we were staying and where we were recording and it was a bit too hot. I think that’s why we didn’t get it finished.”
