Stones Roses Might Be Splitting Up… Again

The Stone Roses might be splitting up again, just two years after their reunion in 2012.

The rumours have stemmed from an anonymous post on fan site I Am Without Shoes Too, with the speculation mounting due to the Manchester band’s silence over the past few months.

The post reads:

“Just had word from a friend who works at Universal Records and announcement will be made next week regarding the bands future. Says the bands representatives and Universal are working on ending the contract and the guys going their separate ways.

“According to a band source after all the gigs were finished trying to recreate magic between four very different entities as compared to their earlier incarnation just didn’t work.

“The usual obligatory band statement will conclude with them all remaining good friends and ending for good The Stone Roses.”

The Stone Roses, who are responsible for changing the landscape of popular music in the UK following their eponymous 1989 debut album, have been inactive since their Coachella and Isle of Wight gigs last year. Though it was said that they were working on new material for a possible third album, their has been no word from the band since those performances.

The band broke the Guinness World Record for the fastest selling concert after their 2012 reunion show sold 220,000 tickets in just 68 minutes. It was their first performance since their split in 1996.

The post states the Stone Roses will be formally announcing their split in the next few days. Looks like we’ll just have to see whether these (admittedly likely) rumours are true.
