R.I.P. Bob Hoskins: Actor Passes Away Due to Pneumonia

Actor Bob Hoskins has died at the age of 71 due to pneumonia, his agent has revealed.

The BAFTA and Golden Globe-winning English actor retired in 2012 due to being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, and died on Tuesday (April 29th) surrounded by his family including his wife Linda, who issued this statement“We are devastated by the loss of our beloved Bob. Bob died peacefully in hospital last night, surrounded by family, following a bout of pneumonia.

“We ask that you respect our privacy during this time and thank you for your messages of love and support.”

Hoskins was perhaps best known for his leading role in Who Framed Roger Rabbit? and received a BAFTA and Golden Globe award, along with an Academy Award nomination, for his starring role in Mona Lisa.

Hoskins, who was born in Bury St Edmunds, West Suffolk, also directed two films, both of which he starred in, 1988’s The Raggedy Runway and 1996’s Rainbow.

Hoskins was also known for his role as Mario in the infamous Super Mario Bros. movie, with Hopkins saying in a Guardian Q&A that his involvement in the movie was the one thing he’d change about his past.

Bob Hoskins is remembered by his wife Linda and children Alex, Sarah, Rosa and Jack.
