PS4 Soars Past 6 Million Sales in 4 Months

It was only a couple of weeks ago that the PS4 toppled the 5 million sale milestone. Since then, it’s added another million to its total without breaking a sweat.

Sony has revealed that the PS4’s total sales are now at 6 million worldwide. 370,000 of that figure is owed to sales in Japan since its launch on February 22nd.

Software sales are also successful with a total number of 13.7 million to-date (an attachment ratio of above 2.2). Killzone: Shadow Fall makes up the bulk of that figure with 2.1 million units sold, or one-third of the install base.

The PS2, which is currently the best-selling console of all-time, sold around 9.2 million during its first year on the market. However, it had a staggered launch which means that it was available in North America and Europe for only half that time. Nonetheless, the PS4 is on-pace to surpass the PS2’s record numbers.

The PS4 has a strong month ahead with several AAA multiplatform titles (i.e. Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes) in addition to inFamous: Second Son, the most anticipated title of the console’s first half-year on the market.
