Developers Choose PS4 Over Xbox One in Poll

The PS4 has already managed to sell over five milllion units worldwide making it the fastest-selling console in history. It’s safe to say Sony has won over consumers, but what about developers?

A poll administered by Game Developers Conference asked North American developers whether or not their next game will be on each current-gen platform. The results were as follows:

  • PS4: 20%
  • Xbox One: 17%
  • Wii U: 4%

While Sony has garnered respect for targeting gamers with its PS4 design, what’s perhaps more important is how it went out of its way to obtain feedback from developers and use that to leverage itself as a developer-oriented manufacturer. Developers have a lot to gain from streamlined, powerful hardware, so Sony set out to create what would eventually become a console based on x86 architecture with 8GB of the best memory money can buy.

Having a lot of horsepower means developers don’t have to tone down their concepts. Games as beautiful as The Order: 1886 can run at 1080p. Multiplatform games are already bearing the fruit of Sony’s labor, and the generation has just begun.
