PS4 Update v1.60 is Now Live, Adds Support for Official PS4 Headset and Mic Mute Option

The first update for the PS4 since December is now live. Numbered v1.60, its improvements are limited, but enough to improve the quality of life for a few consumers.

Here are the official patch notes for v1.60:

  • Picture quality during DVD playback has been improved.
  • Wireless stereo headsets (CECHYA-0080/CECHYA-0083/CECHYA-0086) are now supported.
  • You can now mute the microphone for the PlayStation Camera.

To update, head to the Notification area in the top-left of the PS4’s main menu. If you have an active internet connection, your Notifications tab under that window will be automatically populated with an update link. The update isn’t particularly large and shouldn’t take longer than five minutes on an average connection.

The wireless headset support is the main point of the update as it installs drivers for the PS4’s official headset (presumably model CECHYA-0083). It also includes support for both PULSE headsets, one of Sony’s touted audio solutions for gaming.

Being able to mute the PS Camera microphone is something anyone who’s played online can find invaluable. Previously, if you had your camera plugged in, then others were able to hear what’s going on in your living space during play whether or not you wanted them to.

This is only an incremental update, which explains why it’s limited in features. Stay tuned for v2.0 which is sure to bring some tasty treats to PS4 gamers.
