Hitman is Coming to the PS4 and Xbox One

IO Interactive is working on a new Hitman game for the PS4, Xbox One and PC.

The developer announced that the game is to return to the series’ roots, with more open levels than the linearity of Hitman: Absolution‘s stages.

IO said that the game will feature “a globetrotting Agent 47 at the prime of his career – the apex predator stalking his prey across the world, with the support of his long-term handler Diana Burnwood and the whole of the ICA.”

They continued: “The game concentrates on the core Hitman fantasy of using a wide range of tools to take out a diverse group of targets across expansive, exotic locations around the world.

“We’ve adopted an open, non-linear level design approach to the game, ensuring the game will play out across huge, checkpoint-free, sandbox levels. Our aim is to create living, breathing and believable levels which will allow gamers to play around with the AI to create those unique moments every fan of the Hitman franchise loves.”

The game will run on Absolution‘s Glacier 2 Engine, and will thankfully see the return of the excellent Contracts mode, where plays can create and share their own assassination targets.

The release date for the game is unconfirmed, though IO have said that they will reveal more as we progress into 2014, and will be in “closer contact” with the game’s fans.
