If you’ve been following the eSports scene, particularly StarCraft 2 and League of Legends, you’re probably familiar with Quantic Gaming. They won the IPL Summer Promotion Qualifier in April resulting in $10,000 in winnings, and also won the Razer League of Legends challenge. Despite their success, the team has collapsed following the mysterious disappearance of its team owner.
Quantic Gaming CEO Simon “Sambuca” Boudreault has gone missing. The last team member to speak to him was the team’s media manager who shared a brief conversation with him on December 17th. Prior to that, Boudreault told management that he’d be going to the hospital to perform a biopsy on one of his lungs which had a double digit chance of being cancerous.
Unfortunately for the gamers under Quantic Gaming’s umbrella, Boudreault is behind on payments to some of his employees. StarCraft 2 pro gamer Ko “HyuN” Seok Hyun in particular has been awaiting salary payment which has accumulated to $23,000. He’s already planning to sue for lost wages the moment the CEO is found.
Simon Boudreault invested a large sum of inherited money to construct Quantic Gaming. The team hasn’t been as competitive as he hoped, but has had reasonable success during its limited existence.
Interestingly, the team disbanded during December 2012 due to a lack of funds. Three months later it would rebuild with additions from the Cloud 9 gaming roster, including the now famous AD carry for Team SoloMid, WildTurtle.
Team members suspect that he purposefully disappeared due to debts. However, nothing is confirmed. An investigation is under way.
