Gran Turismo 6’s Graphics are Somehow Worse than Gran Turismo 5’s

Many would consider The Last of Us to be the final great release of the PS3 era, but one could argue that Gran Turismo 6 is. While it has launched after the PS4 has already flown off shelves worldwide, it’s the last release for the platform that has a big IP attached to it. Consequently, it’s a big farewell with a lot riding on it.

A comparison video posted by DigiProst on YouTube shows footage of a Lexus IS F racing around Monza in Gran Turismo 6 and Gran Turismo 5. The results are shocking. Shadows and reflections have seen noticeable reductions in quality to make room for a blur filter and more stable framerate.

The video makes clear that if you purchase Gran Turismo 6 you aren’t investing in the ultimate graphical showcase for the PS3, you’re purchasing Gran Turismo 5 with a lot more content. For many that’s a completely valid reason to race to the store and buy the game. For others, it’s a disappointment that highlights why gamers have been so anxious for the PS4. Thankfully, it’s here and here to stay. It even has Gran Turismo 7 in the pipeline, which should serve as the proper evolution of the series that it deserves.
