Final Fantasy 8 Now Available on Steam with Cool Extras

Perhaps one of the finest JRPGs to ever grace the world is now available on Steam: Final Fantasy VIII.

Similar to Final Fantasy VII, which was pushed onto Steam just months ago, Final Fantasy VIII‘s Steam version enjoys slightly better visual fidelity (a screenshot can be seen above) and a few extra goodies. The extras are as follows:

Magic Booster

When Magic Booster is used, the player’s inventory of the following spells is increased by 100:

Cure, Cura, Curaga, Fire, Fira, Blizzard, Blizzara, Thunder, Thundara, Sleep, Blind, Silence, Berserk, Bio, Esuna, Aero, Confuse, Break, Zombie

This feature can be used from the launcher.

Chocobo World

This version of FFVIII includes the full game “Chocobo World” that was released as a separate application for previous versions. It is possible to play “Chocobo World” directly from the launcher after booting up FFVIII and by fulfilling certain specific conditions in the main game you will also be able to synchronise data between the two games.

Magic Booster is significant in making the game easier since the power of your characters is dependent on equipped magic through a Junction system. If you’ve never beaten Final Fantasy VIII, this is your best shot. You will be able to grind a lot less and beef up your characters to take down Omega Weapon and other legendary bosses.

Chocobo World was originally made for the Pocket Station, a tiny memory card peripheral that never crossed the waters bordering Japan. Truthfully, it’s not really worth your time beyond trying it out, and you won’t be able to unlock it until reaching later in your Final Fantasy VIII journey anyway.

If you need an extra little nudge before purchasing, maybe the trailer below will do the trick:

Final Fantasy VIII is available now for $11.99.
