Big Day Out Announce Three Blur Replacements

The Big Day Out announced three new lineup additions after headliners Blur made the surprising call last week they would be bailing on January’s national tour.

Big Day Out organisers have enlisted the help of multiple acts instead of another headliner to join Pearl Jam and Arcade Fire: Beady Eye, The Hives and Deftones.

Citing “shifting goalposts” and “very challenging organisers”, Blur withdrew from the 2014 bill just two month’s from the festival’s launch and ending what would have marked the band’s first return to Australia in 17 years.

Possibly too late to secure the services of another headline worthy act, festival heads looked for an attractive alternative. “Do keep in mind that we are replacing the third band on the bill and not a stadium act,” promoter AJ Maddah cautioned via Twitter last week.

Led by Liam Gallagher, Beady Eye are coming off their sophomore release, BE, and are set to revive some old Oasis classics as parts of their sets.

Swedish rockers The Hives are also on board after ending a five-year album drought with Lex Hives last year, returning to Australia on the back of big performances at this year’s Falls Festival.

The Deftones round out the 2014 Big Day Out roster alongside Flume, Tame Impala, Snoop Dogg, Major Lazer and The Lumineers.

Organisers are offering unsatisfied fans their money back. Ticket holders seeking refunds can visit the official BDO website for instructions before January 6.
