Nine Inch Nails Frontman Trent Reznor Blasts Soundwave Ahead Of Australian Visit

Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor took shots at outspoken Australian promoter AJ Maddah and the Soundwave festival on Monday, just months out from the band’s massive Down Under visit.

The Nine Inch Nails are teaming up with Queens Of The Stone Age for an eight-stop arena tour of Australia and New Zealand after shunning offers to take part in the Australian summer festival scene.

Reznor responded to past comments made by Soundwave promoter AJ Maddah in an interview with News Ltd on Monday after the man behind the Big Day Out and the Warped Tour previously tweeted, “Sadly Trent wants to be mainstream now and reach Justin Timberlake’s audience” and the NIN had retreated “up their own arse sadly”.

“Yeah, I caught some wind of that,” the 48-year-old Reznor said in the News Ltd interview. “He seems like a pretty cool guy.”

“I’m trying to make the best music I can, hoping that it is expansive and challenging. How that got misconstrued into I’m trying to be – what was it, Justin Timberlake?”

“OK … A better way of saying it is, ‘I think your bill sucked and I’d rather not be on that bill’,” he added. “That’s a much more truthful way of saying it.”

Reznor took to Twitter after the Maddah spat to inform fans Soundwave- featuring Green Day, Avenged Sevenfold, Stone Temple Pilots, Alice In Chains, Rob Zombie and AFI plus many others. – wasn’t for the NIN and that they were working on something a little more exciting.

“I didn’t even have to think about it,” Reznor said of the tweet. “And, just to address the Soundwave thing … what I think about is, as a fan, would I want to go see Nine Inch Nails on that bill? I wouldn’t go see Nine Inch Nails on that bill. But I’d be excited to see ‘em with Queens.”
