The Strokes Plan 2014 Return

The Strokes are looking to make a return to the spotlight in 2014, according to an announcement by the band in a fan email newsletter.

The letter, which was largely a promotion guitarist Albert Hammond Jr’s new solo album AHJ, offered the following bit: “Hey folks, while The Strokes are toiling and writing, looking at 2014 for a return to the scene, Albert Hammond Jr. has been busy on his solo EP…”

The band’s latest album, 2013’s more experimental Comedown Machine, didn’t land on a particularly enthusiastic fanbase despite critical acclaim, and the band has no plans to tour behind it. This naturally led to internet rumors of troubles within the band.

Hammond put an end to breakup speculation by suggesting that the future looks bright for the New York quintet. “There might be times when we’re not doing things but I don’t feel like we’ll ever stop,” he said. “We’ve come to the point where we’ve been together so long and been through so much that why announce anything besides what we’re doing? We’re just together.”
