Spotify’s Top 50 Tracks For The Week: A Playlist

Congratulations, internet. Somehow, you’ve managed to keep Miley Cyrus in the top spot on the Spotify Top 50 Streams for three weeks running. Ever since her toddler-sexuality antics at the VMAs earlier this month, we’ve seen endless headlines featuring the “controversial” opinions and perspectives of America’s favorite mollygoblin spokesgirl. Who could’ve guessed what we were enabling when we were mockingly line-dancing to “Achy Breaky Heart” 20 years ago?

For better or worse, the cultural wrecking ball behind “Wrecking Ball” has pulled 2.4 million streams of her single in the past week, followed by Lady Gaga & Lana Del Rey’s worst nightmare, Lorde, whose “Royals” song with 2.1 million streams. Given that we’ve all seen quite enough of the twerknasty tongue-wagging waifage that is Miss Cyrus, we’ll go with the New Zealand teen idol as a header image instead.

Meanwhile, Avicii‘s endlessly persistent “Wake Me Up” single lands in the third spot with 1.9 million plays, while Drake‘s “Hold On, We’re Going Home” follows with 1.8 million listens, and Katy Perry follows just behind in fifth position with 1.7 million streams.

The last month has been a nearly indistinguishable rotation of the same five songs in the top five positions, and the top 10 doesn’t do much to spice things up. Let’s get it together, streamers. There are a billion other songs out there to rock yourself to.
