Listen: Kings of Leon Reveal Heartsick, Gorgeous ‘Beautiful War’

Kings of Leon have unveiled another promising track off their album Mechanical Bull, which arrives Sept. 24.

You’ve heard the heartstrummer new single “Wait For Me,” and “Beautiful War” follows in its emotive footsteps. The band played a live version of the track on Tuesday, on Zane Lowe’s BBC Radio 1 show, the first time its been revealed anywhere – but it’s not a new song by any means. Frontman Caleb Followill reportedly wrote the track during same weekend as the band’s 2008 hit “Use Somebody”.

Speaking to Lowe, Followill said of the song: “I think if people don’t appreciate ‘Beautiful War’, then they can’t appreciate anything!”

Well, nothing like a little expectation pressure to set up a track! Listen to “Beautiful War” below (skip to 2:45 for the song):

The band’s return album will arrive on September 24, and the four-piece will be playing festivals all over the world in anticipation of it.

Back in March, Caleb Followill told NME “I thought we were going to make a really mature album but I’m amazed how youthful it sounds. It’s like a mix of Youth & Young Manhood and Because Of The Times.”

Kings of Leon’s follow-up to 2010′s Come Around Sundown is said to feature a good number of high-energy rockers. By the look of things, apparently the “internal sicknesses & problems” that plagued the band just two years ago have been dealt with.
