The six-minute trailer for the new MGMT album is predictable, only in the sense that the band has become reliably unpredictable in nearly every way. It opens on a new day with frontman Andrew VanWyngarden who meets a possum in the bathroom. At ban practice later on, a narrative involving the NSA and a weird cyborg beetle thing unfolds, and… well, you’ll just have to see for yourself. Also, apparently Andrew’s impression of Shaggy from Scooby Doo is unintentional.
MGMT the album arrives September 17th via Columbia. What a month for new music, eh?
