Interview: Everlast on ‘The Life Acoustic,’ America’s Inevitable Changes & More

CraveOnline’s featured Band of The Month artist is Everlast, the man who made us “Jump Around” two decades ago with House of Pain, helped launch the powerhouse La Coka Nostra collective and carved his own niche with a barrage of powerful grit-&-rhythm solo albums. The veteran singer/songwriter is revisiting signature tracks from his career and beyond on his new album The Life Acoustic, which arrives today on his Martyr Inc record label.

We’ve brought you a collection of stripped-down fantastic exclusive in-studio performances previewing The Life Acoustic in our Band of The Month series – from single “Sad Girl” to a funked-up take on Slick Rick’s “Children’s Story” and more. Now check out a controversial new full-length interview we did with the almighty Everlast, on the day of release for the new record.

Watch below as Erik Schrody, aka Everlast, walks through the reasons for revisiting certain songs on The Life Acoustic, why his friend Joe Rogan (comedian, UFC commentator & fellow badass) says he “paints with a dark brush,” and a closer look at the material included on the new album. Stepping into matters of present day America, Everlast also discusses why there’s no peaceful turning back in the oncoming police-state environment in our nation, and why he’s not changing his outspoken ways come hell or high water. After all, this is Everlast we’re talking about. “You can lock me up for it, fuck you. People realize it might be time for a sweeping change… which would take more than your votes. I know what’s going to happen… I’m just trying to stay ahead of the curve.” Check it out below:
