GameStop Says Next-Gen is “Largest Console Launch In History”

It’s been eight years since the Xbox 360 debuted, and seven for the PlayStation 3. Since then many things have happened in the gaming industry, but more than anything else gamers have become eager for new hardware, as indicated by the record breaking pre-order numbers.

GameStop CEO Paul Raines is convinced that the next generation of consoles will have “the largest console launch in history”, which he shared during the latest GameStop investor call. He explained that the Xbox One and PS4 pre-orders and supply are “much stronger” than during the previous generation.

For comparison’s sake, the PS3 sold around 1.2 million units in the United States during its first 90 days, while the Xbox 360 sold 2.5 million units in the same amount of time.

The demand for both consoles will only increase as the holiday season approaches, and the PS4 in particular has primed itself for a launch well before the all-important Black Friday.
