Gamescom 2013: PS4’s Cross-Platform Upgrade Prices Are Very Affordable

During its press conference, Sony made the announcement that in order to make the jump from PS3 to PS4 less dramatic for consumers, it will offer a cross-platform upgrade option. As Sony described, it allows consumers to upgrade their multiplatform games from the current generation to the next at a “significantly discounted price”. It wasn’t lying.

Activision’s Eric Hirshberg has revealed that the cross-platform upgrade for Call of Duty: Ghosts is only $10. It is likely that other games including Watch Dogs, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, and Battlefield 4 will cost around the same. In the case of Call of Duty, DLC offered by the Elite program will also carry over.

Sony understands that not everyone is eager to run out and buy a new console at launch, so some of their favorite franchises will be purchased on the PS3. The last thing it wants to do is make the jump to next-gen more difficult, and a $10 upgrade price for noticeably better performance and graphics is a huge move.
