New fan-made artwork featuring Benedict Cumberbatch’s rumored Avengers: Doomsday character is here, adding to the wave of promotional posters that have already surfaced for the upcoming Marvel movie. The new photo gives fans another reason to speculate about the actor’s mysterious role.
New Avengers: Doomsday art shows Doctor Doom’s team with Boris and three witches
The latest fan art depicts Boris standing alongside Doctor Doom and three witches, expanding on previously released promotional posters that featured other cast members. As those spotlighted Doctor Doom, the Avengers, X-Men, and Fantastic Four, though several characters, including Steve Rogers, Human Torch, and Falcon, remain absent from current marketing.
Now, the “Shh” gesture from Boris in the artwork has intensified speculation about who hides beneath the mask. According to scooper MyTimeToShineHello on X (formerly Twitter), Cumberbatch reportedly plays Boris, Doctor Doom’s sidekick, who wields a sling ring and appears as a wizard beside Robert Downey Jr.’s character. This report contradicts earlier assumptions about Cumberbatch reprising Doctor Strange.
Marvel has confirmed Cumberbatch‘s involvement without revealing his character. The actor acknowledged his return in January 2025 after previously suggesting Doctor Strange would sit out the film.
In Marvel Comics, Boris serves as a caretaker and advisor, not a superpowered character, to the Doom family in Latveria, making the reported wizard abilities a striking departure from the source material.
The ensemble unites heroes from three universes: the Avengers, Wakandans, and New Avengers from Earth-616, the Fantastic Four from Earth-828, and the X-Men from a separate, unnamed universe.
They face an existential threat unlike anything they’ve encountered. The cast includes Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, Tom Hiddleston, Sebastian Stan, Paul Rudd, and Robert Downey Jr., alongside Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, and Channing Tatum.
The Russo Brothers direct Avengers: Doomsday from a screenplay by Stephen McFeely, with Michael Waldron, Chris McKenna, and Erik Sommers also contributing. The film is releasing on December 18, 2026.
