New rumors may have just revealed the future of the Skywalker Saga. Early plot details for Star Wars Episode X reportedly tease two fresh leads, their connection to Rey, and a story that sounds unlike anything the franchise has done before.
New rumors possibly reveal Star Wars X’s plot and leads
Lucasfilm is moving forward with Star Wars Episode X, and new plot details have emerged. Scooper Daniel Richtman first reported the film will feature two leads, with Rey serving as their mentor. Insider FivesWalker then corroborated and expanded on the report with additional details.
Jon Watts will direct the film from a script by Simon Kinberg. FivesWalker revealed that Lucasfilm is actively casting for the two lead roles. “They’re looking for male and female actors in their early – mid 20’s,” the insider shared. “I think the aim is to find unknowns. But casting has been underway for a little bit now.”
FivesWalker also described the dynamic between the two new characters. “Episode X will have duo leads like Finn and Rey,” they explained. “Their dynamic is very much that archetype, but with a more clearly defined romantic component.” The insider added that the male lead “comes from a harsh orphaned background just like Rey and is swept up into the story after being implicated in a killing.”
Meanwhile, the female lead takes a different path. FivesWalker described her as someone who “comes from high society, a perfectionist. Royalty.” The insider noted that she brings the male lead “into the larger ‘world’s stage’ of Star Wars characters we know.” FivesWalker also clarified the male lead will not be Flynn Gray’s character from Star Wars: Starfighter.
Rey’s standalone film is reportedly on hold rather than cancelled outright. Daisy Ridley’s project was first announced in 2023 but appears sidelined now. Her story will instead continue through this new installment.
Watts previously directed episodes of Disney+’s Skeleton Crew and helmed all three MCU Spider-Man films. Kinberg wrote The Martian but also penned divisive projects like Dark Phoenix and X-Men: The Last Stand.
