The creator of Entourage has hit back at Debi Mazar after the actor described the show’s set as “toxic.” He rejected her claims that she was treated differently following her second pregnancy, calling the allegations “disgusting” in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
Doug Ellin defends Entourage after Debi Mazar’s remarks
Ellin, who co-executive produced and wrote many episodes of the HBO dramedy, responded forcefully to Mazar’s recent interview comments. The actor, who played publicist Shauna Roberts across the series, said the atmosphere shifted after the first season.
“Season one was a joy-fest. But in the third season, the set was a testosterone-fuelled environment,” Mazar said in an interview with The Times UK. She added that after giving birth to her second child, she felt pressure regarding her appearance. “They didn’t like that I got fat, even though I got skinny again,” she said.
Ellin rejected that characterization outright. “Never, ever did myself or anyone that matters care or discuss Debi Mazar’s body,” he wrote. “I would one million percent embrace any woman who got pregnant.”
The creator did admit to commenting on the physiques of some male cast members. He said he wanted Adrian Grenier to appear “more muscular” and Jerry Ferrara to look heavier, a decision Ellin now regrets due to health implications he failed to recognize at the time.
Debi Mazar acknowledged her own outspoken nature may have contributed to tensions. “I’m tough, but it got toxic towards the end for me,” she said. “I never held back my discontent. But I always was professional and I’m grateful I was on it.”
And this is not the first time Mazar has expressed mixed feelings about Entourage. In a 2020 interview, she said she felt embarrassed by some of her character’s dialogue, noting that certain lines made her blush. Similarly, Ellin has previously defended the series against criticism.
