The woman who went viral for destroying the window of a man’s truck with a baseball has been identified and arrested. In the road rage incident, which was caught in a TikTok video that has since garnered over 34 million views, the mother marched out of her red SUV and swung the bat against the back window of the white truck. Moments later, the driver of the pickup rear-ended the woman’s vehicle in retaliation before fleeing. However, the angry confrontation allegedly started before the viral video was filmed.
Woman explains why she attacked the man’s truck in the first place
On August 20, Jenipher Lewis was arrested in connection with the road rage incident that occurred on Monday at around 8:45 p.m. by the Albuquerque Police Department, as posted on its official Instagram page. It occurred at the intersection of Constitution Avenue and Wyoming Blvd.
According to police, Lewis claims that she attacked the truck “to protect herself and her children” after the driver had cut her off while pulling out of a parking lot.
The man who captured the TikTok video (and didn’t want to be identified) corroborated that the incident happened before she smashed the window, telling KRQE that the video is “kind of out of context.”
“It really started with him, like, verbally attacking her and slamming on his brakes, trying to make her hit him,” he explained. “And then he said some nasty things that got her upset enough to hit his window.”
The mother has been charged with abuse, endangering a child’s life and health, reckless driving, and driving with a suspended or revoked license.
However, the APD is still searching for the driver of the pickup truck and says it needs “help identifying the driver” in part because the vehicle did not appear to have a license plate in the video.
