One passenger took matters into their own hands when the black car he was riding in began skidding uncontrollably on the ice. Footage of the incident sees a rider in the back seat of the vehicle open the door and hurl himself out of the car as it slides through a parking lot at a popular ski resort in Chile. Bystanders watched as other civilians and vehicles tried to dodge out of the car’s way.
Driver almost hits several people at Chilean ski resort
On August 7, Instagram user @guia_estefania captured video of a black car trying to brake but failing to stop as it slips down an icy road in the parking lot of Farellones, a Chilean ski resort that provides slope access to El Colorado in the Andes Mountains.
The post, which reminds drivers to put snow chains on their tires on slippery mountain roads, has since gone viral, garnering over 440,000 likes at the time of writing.
The video shows the car losing control as the driver tries to avoid a crash. Bystanders yell at others in the parking lot to get out of the way while also shouting at the driver to release the brake, according to Chilean network Canal 13. However, the driver is seemingly unable to respond to the advice.
That’s when the passenger opens the left side door and dives out of the car, trying not to get caught in what could be a potential crash. One commenter theorizes that the rider wanted to lessen the weight of the car so that it would lose speed.
The passenger lands on his butt but is able to stand up quickly, then runs after the vehicle as it almost collides with a larger white van, which backs up just in time before the car comes to a halt.
Fortunately, it looks like no one was hurt in the incident. Hopefully, the driver has learned the lesson the hard way and has since purchased tire chains to prevent this from happening again.
