A routine traffic stop for a cop can become life-threatening in the blink of an eye. An officer for Tennessee Highway Patrol had pulled over an SUV to the side of a highway and was preparing to get out of the driver’s seat when another car suddenly rear-ended the cruiser. Footage taken from the dashcam and the cop’s bodycam shows how powerful the impact was.
Highway trooper was rear-ended during routine traffic stop
On August 5 at around 2:11 p.m., a highway trooper had stopped a gray SUV on Interstate 65 in Davidson County and pulled it over to the side of Interstate 65 when his cop car was suddenly struck in the rear, as seen in a video posted by the Tennessee Highway Patrol on its official Facebook page.
Dashcam footage shows the immediate impact of the collision, which had enough force to send the police cruiser barreling into the SUV that the cop had originally stopped. The white car that caused the crash can be seen turning into view, halting in the rightmost lane with its windshield and hood heavily dented by the fender-bender.
Video taken from the officer’s bodycam shows it being knocked off the uniform and tumbling toward the floorboard of the cruiser. The footage is even more harrowing when it’s replayed in slow motion near the end of the Facebook Reel.
The report doesn’t say that the officer sustained any major injuries. Still, the post reminds readers that seeing flashing lights from a police car means that they should move over when it safe to do so or, if that’s not possible, to slow down and proceed with caution.
