Most road rage incidents involve a shouting match or people getting out of their car ready for a fight, but one driver in Oregon became so enraged that he chased his target by driving backwards for a mile. Police released a video featuring dashcam footage from the victim’s perspective of the driver trying to cut the man off and going into oncoming lanes during his pursuit. Fortunately, the man had the bright idea to end the chase by going straight to the closest police station.
Man heads straight to the police department to stop road rage incident
On July 26 at around 7:25 a.m., a man and his wife were pursued by a reckless driver during a road rage incident, according to footage posted by the Beaverton Police Department on its official Facebook page.
The video, which shows footage from the victim’s front dash camera and rear view camera, shows a driver in what looks to a black Subaru doggedly chasing him through the streets. It’s unclear what caused the road rage incident in the first place, but the footage starts with the driver already going in reverse to catch him as the man attempts to evade the pursuer.
At one point, the enraged driver tries to cut him off and force him off the road, but the man is able to make several U-turns to confuse the chaser.
These maneuvers would normally shake off any pursuer. But the driver continued to chase him in reverse for a mile, making a turn backwards through an intersection and crossing the double yellow line several times. The man reported that the driver also flashed what looked like a firearm from his coat as a threat.
Wanting to stop the road rage incident from escalating further, the man headed toward the Beaverton Police Department, with the driver apparently being so angry that he couldn’t tell where he was being led.
That’s when officers arrested the driver, identified as 29-year-old Arman K. Hastings, who was taken into custody without incident. The police found a realistic-looking black airsoft handgun in his jacket pocket.
Hastings has booked at the Washington County jail on charges of menacing and reckless driving.
