Kevin Costner’s Horizon franchise is still waiting for its next chapter. Another of his Western projects, however, is generating fresh sequel discussion. Although Prime Video has yet to announce a decision on the show, one of its stars believes the historical drama still has plenty of untold stories if it earns another season.
The Gray House star on whether Prime Video’s limited series could continue
Months after The Gray House debuted on Prime Video, questions continue to surround its future. The Civil War drama, executive produced by Kevin Costner and Morgan Freeman, has not been renewed, but actor Keith David is optimistic that the series could continue if Amazon gives it the green light.
Speaking with ScreenRant, David hints he would gladly return for more episodes, pointing to the wealth of overlooked American history that could fuel another chapter. Rather than focusing only on the characters already introduced, he suggested there is “a lot to unpack,” adding that many lesser-known stories remain unexplored and would make “a wonderful” foundation for future seasons.
Critical reception, however, was more divided than its streaming performance. The series currently holds a 42% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes, with several reviewers questioning both its historical accuracy and how it handled its central characters. Viewers responded more positively, giving it a 68% score, though audience reactions were still mixed overall.
That optimism comes even though Prime Video has remained silent since Season 1 wrapped up. Amazon does not publicly release detailed streaming figures, so its internal viewership data will likely determine whether the series continues. Still, The Gray House spent multiple weeks inside the platform’s Top 10, hinting it found an audience after its February debut.
The series also arrived during a turbulent period for Costner’s Western ambitions. After departing Yellowstone, the Oscar winner shifted much of his attention to Horizon: An American Saga. While the first film launched in 2024, its box office performance fell short of expectations. Horizon: Chapter 2 has already debuted at the Venice Film Festival but still lacks an official release date, while backing for the planned third and fourth installments remains unresolved.
