Unannounced Thunderbolts* Hero Surprisingly Returns in Avengers: Doomsday – Report

A character from the Thunderbolts* roster could make an unexpected appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Avengers: Doomsday. New rumours point to a brief but notable cameo in one of the franchise’s most anticipated instalments.

Geraldine Viswanathan’s Mel rumored for a brief cameo in Avengers: Doomsday

The latest whisper comes from known scooper James Mack, who shared on X that “Mel has a cameo in Avengers Doomsday at Avengerz Tower.” Geraldine Viswanathan first stepped into the MCU in 2025’s Thunderbolts* as Mel, Valentina Allegra de Fontaine’s sharp and resourceful assistant.

The character proved pivotal in the film’s climax, saving the CIA Director from a brutal end at the hands of The Sentry. Fans believe she is Melissa Gold, better known in Marvel Comics as Songbird, a founding member of the Thunderbolts.

The film never pushed her into a superhero suit, but it planted seeds. Viswanathan addressed that potential evolution in a previous interview with Comic Book Movie. “I mean, I would love to see her go down that path, and given the full evolution [and] Marvel treatment,” she said. “I think that she deserves that, and there’s a lot there to have fun with, and play with. I think she has more to do, you know?”

Those seeds may sprout sooner than anticipated. The closing moments of Thunderbolts* see Val unveil the New Avengers to the world. With that team primed for a role in Avengers: Doomsday, Mel’s presence alongside her boss makes narrative sense. When asked whether she might join the cast, Viswanathan had shared, “We’ll see! I’m not sure, but as Julie and I have been saying, we’re available, and we’d be happy to.”

The Russo brothers direct Avengers: Doomsday from a script by Michael Waldron and Stephen McFeely. The film pulls heroes from three separate universes, the Avengers, Wakandans, and New Avengers of Earth-616, the Fantastic Four from Earth-828, and the original X-Men from their own reality, into a collision course with Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom. Anthony Mackie, Florence Pugh, Chris Hemsworth, Sebastian Stan, Paul Rudd, and Chris Evans all return.
