R-Rated Sydney Sweeney Thriller Finds Huge Success on Digital

Sydney Sweeney’s latest R-rated thriller is making waves on digital platforms following its theatrical run. The film’s rising popularity has sparked conversations among viewers. It quickly climbed to the top of streaming charts shortly after its digital release.

The Housemaid is already on top on digital streaming

Sydney Sweeney’s R-rated thriller The Housemaid has reached the #1 position on the Apple TV Store, as announced in a post on X (formerly Twitter): “Have you heard? #TheHousemaid is #1 on the @AppleTV Store!” (X/@HousemaidMovie, Feb 5, 2026).

The film hit digital platforms for purchase and rental on February 3, 2026, and topped the iTunes chart within two days, surpassing major titles like Zootopia 2 and Greenland 2: Migration, according to FlixPatrol.

Based on Freida McFadden’s bestselling novel, The Housemaid premiered in theaters on December 19, 2025. Produced on a $35 million budget, it grossed $310 million globally. Lionsgate has already confirmed a sequel titled The Housemaid’s Secret, with Sydney Sweeney reprising her role as Millie and Rebecca Sonnenshine returning to adapt the screenplay.

Amanda Seyfried plays Nina Winchester, while Sydney Sweeney portrays Millie Calloway. Brandon Sklenar takes on the role of Andrew Winchester, Michele Morrone appears as Enzo Accardi, and Elizabeth Perkins plays Evelyn Perkins. Paul Feig directed the film, and Rebecca Sonnenshine wrote the screenplay based on Freida McFadden’s novel.

The Housemaid holds a Certified Fresh score of 74% from critics and a 92% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Viewers can rent or purchase The Housemaid for $19.99 and $24.99 respectively on Apple TV, Prime Video, YouTube, and Fandango at Home. Lionsgate plans to release the film on Starz around April 2026.

Freida McFadden published a follow-up novel, The Housemaid Is Watching, in 2024. While Lionsgate has greenlit only the first sequel so far, the studio may continue the franchise. Rebecca Sonnenshine and Paul Feig are set to return for future adaptations.
