Charles Barkley Says He Doesn’t Want to Die on TV Next to ‘Fat Ass’ Shaq (We Should Be So Lucky)

You probably haven’t thought much about how you’d prefer to die. Most people avoid the subject. If you have pondered your inevitable demise, you’ve probably envisioned something peaceful, like kicking the bucket in your sleep. Hopefully, you don’t depart this mortal coil in a dumb way, like choking on a Flamin’ Hot Cheeto. But that’s the thing about death: we never know when – or how – it’s coming for us.

But pro basketball player Charles Barkley has some opinions on how he does and does not want to live out his last moments, which he revealed when Sports Media Watch recently asked about him his gig with TNT during a media conference call.

“It’s been a great, great thing. I love Ernie, Kenny, Shaq and everybody we work with. But I just don’t feel the need to work until the day I die. I don’t, man. I’ll be 61 years old if I finish out my contract,” he said. “And I don’t want to die on TV. I want to die on the golf course or somewhere fishing. I don’t want to be sitting inside over [by] fat-ass Shaq [waiting] to drop dead.”

Oof. Tell us how you really feel, Charles.

We like the idea of dying while fishing (though to be clear: not because a fish ate us) and we could see how golf courses might just be glorified cemeteries.

But, hey, would dying on TV next to Shaq (no matter how much of a fat ass he is) be the worst thing? We should be so lucky.
