Vinyl record collecting has seen such a resurgence in the past decade that it can no longer just be deemed a niche hipster hobby. Bandcamp is now getting into the record-making business by offering a new vinyl pressing service that “streamlines the financing, production, and fulfillment of vinyl records.”

Crash course: How To Buy The Right Record Player

Bandcamp’s new DIY service allows artists to launch crowdfunding campaigns for vinyl releases in the same way indie films are financed on Kickstarter or IndieGoGo. Once a band’s campaign reaches its minimum goal, Bandcamp will press and ship the record directly to fans. There will be no label interference as artists will maintain full control of the record’s design as well as its price.

This has the potential to be a game-changer as Bandcamp has reported that sales of vinyl records on their online music streaming service have grown 600 percent in the last five years. These eye-popping numbers prove that fans want more than unlimited music streaming from their favorite artists. Vinyl records not only offer superior sound but are also collectible art.

The new Bandcamp service will open to all artists and labels later this year. For now, you can get your collectible record fix through these subscription-based vinyl clubs.
