The terror attacks that took place on September 11, 2001 are something anyone alive at the time will remember as one of the darkest days in America. We’re not exactly sure what age the target audience for VeggieTales falls under, but we’re willing to bet that it really doesn’t matter considering posting a self-promotional meme in honor of the National Day of Service and Remembrance is just in poor taste.

VeggieTales Facebook Page Posts Tasteless 9/11 Meme

Note: VeggieTales took their posts down from Facebook and Twitter right before this went live. Fortunately, Twitter users have a photographic memory:

There’s just something about the cutesy characters and their big eyes coupled with the whole national tragedy aspect that just rubs you the wrong way, isn’t there? Not to mention the caption underneath, “In memory of many, in honor of all. #NeverForget #VeggieTales,” which fails to mention September 11th at all, yet still shills the product.

Don’t worry, though, you’re not the only ones feeling uncomfortable. It’s clear from the thousands of comments the post received that mistakes were made.

Let this be a blunder the social media managers for the children’s animated characters never forget…to avoid next time around. The same goes for you, too, SmashMouth.
