Foxtel Responds With Shitty Excuse After ‘Game Of Thrones’ Crash

Last night’s Game Of Thrones season seven premiere was dark and full of terrors (oh, and Ed Sheeran) for Aussie fans, after many were left Thrones-less when Foxtel‘s streaming service Foxtel Now pretty much carked it.

Foxtel has been heavily criticised since the crash, which left some people unable to sign up or sign in to Foxtel Now ahead of the season premiere, and now, in a press release titled ‘Game of Thrones phenomenon crash sites across the globe!’, Foxtel says the premiere didn’t only cause “technical glitches” in Australia, but also around the world.

“The show’s producer and U.S. broadcaster, HBO, reported its technical systems could not cope and in Australia, the surge of demand for Foxtel’s recently launched on line product, Foxtel Now, also experienced customer meltdown,” Foxtel says.

Meanwhile, Foxtel spokesman Bruce Meagher says the company is “devastated” that some customers “experienced technical issues” last night.

“As was the case in the U.S. and Latin America, the unprecedented rush for a subscription just prior to the telecast, crashed the system,” he says.

“Foxtel engineers are working through the night to resolve the issue. It’s most unfortunate and we apologise to those affected. We are committed to resolving the technical faults immediately and together with our broadcast partners around the world, we are giving this the same degree of priority.

“We assure anyone impacted that they will be able to watch the first episode of Season 7 either On Demand or via one of our encore screenings throughout the week. We will continue to communicate with affected customers to ensure they are fully informed.”

Despite Foxtel’s apology and shitty excuse, Thronies vented on social media throughout the night, with many saying they’ll be leaving the service.
