‘Star Trek: Discovery’ Adds a Few More Cast Members

After months of waiting, we still don’t know when CBS plans to debut the next Star Trek TV series on CBS All Access. But we do know some of the new faces that will come on board the Discovery, and a few who might pose a threat to both the ship and the Federation itself.

CBS All Access has announced that former Penny Dreadful star Shazad Latif has been recast in a much bigger role with the Star Trek: Discovery series. Latif had previously been slated to play Kol, a commanding officer in the Klingon military. But now, Latif will play Lt. Tyler, a Starfleet officer. Former Battlestar Galactica star (and one of the final five Cylons), Rekha Sharma is also joining the series as Commander Landry, the Discovery’s security officer.

As for the Klingons, Kenneth Mitchell (Jericho) is slated to take over the role of Kol, with Claire McConnell and Damon Runyan as leaders in the Klingon Empire.  McConnell will play Dennas, while Runyan will portray Ujilli.

Very little is known about Star Trek: Discovery‘s story, but it has been revealed that it will take place a decade before the original series; which means that it takes place a few decades after Star Trek: Enterprise. The Walking Dead‘s Sonequa Martin-Green is headlining the series as First Officer Michael Burnham, and she presumably won’t have to worry about space zombies on this show. But you never know with Star Trek

Jason Isaacs is playing a supporting role as Discovery’s Captain Lorca; which means this is the first series in the franchise to follow the first officer’s point of view instead of the captain’s POV. Doug Jones is playing the Science Officer, Lt. Saru, with Anthony Rapp as Lt. Stamets, and Rainn Wilson as Harry Mudd, a character who should be very familiar to fans of the original series.

Star Trek: Discovery is currently in production on its 13 episode first season. There is currently no word on when it will premiere, but a late summer or a fall premiere seem likely.
