Denis Villeneuve Receives First Oscar Nomination For “Arrival”

Denis Villeneuve has been nominated for his first-ever Oscar for his work directing the film Arrival.

The movie is also nominated for Best Picture and six other award categories.

Meanwhile, the flick La, La Land, which has been garnering praise on the festival circuit and stars London, Ontario native Ryan Gosling, is leading the pack of nominations, announced Tuesday – it is up for a total of 14 nominations, and Gosling is vying for the Best Actor Oscar (he has already been nominated once before his work on Half Nelson in 2006).

The best picture nominees are:

  • Arrival
  • Fences
  • Hacksaw Ridge
  • Hell or High Water
  • Hidden Figures
  • La La Land
  • Lion
  • Manchester by the Sea
  • Moonlight

The 89th Academy Awards will take place on February 26th at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles.
