Conan O’Brien’s ‘Clueless Gamer’ May Become a TV Series

Conan O’Brien’s Clueless Gamer has been one of the most popular parts of TBS’ Conan for years. While O’Brien isn’t a very good gamer, his reactions to new video games alongside celebrity guests are often the best segments on Conan. But Clueless Gamer may not be confined to late night much longer.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Clueless Gamer is in development at TBS and “considered likely to go to series.” “We’re going into production next month on a new series, Clueless Gamer, based on the viral video [Conan O’Brien has] done where he essentially makes fun of video games, gets celebrities to play and makes commentary on them,” said TBS President Kevin Reilly. “We’ve gotten to the point where video game companies are sending us their new product for us to play and make fun of because it’s been such a huge success. We’re going to go into production on a series of that.

However, there is a bit of bad news buried in there: O’Brien is only executive producing the new Clueless Gamer show, and not hosting it. Considering that O’Brien is already hosting Conan, that doesn’t leave much extra time in his schedule. However, a lot of Clueless Gamer‘s charm comes from O’Brien himself, and his audience’s familiarity with him. Finding a suitable replacement host may not be easy, even if the celebrity guests continue to appear in the new version. If we had our way, O’Brien would remain as host of both series, and that’s not entirely out of the question. Reilly acknowledged that there is some talk of retooling the Conan series, potentially by transforming it from a daily series into a weekly show. However, a hard format change for O’Brien’s late night show has not been confirmed, at least for this year.
