Canadian Actor Alan Thicke Dies At 69

Canadian actor Alan Thicke, known for playing Dr. Jason Seaver on the hit 80s sitcom Growing Pains, died after suffering a heart attack. He was 69 years old.

According to reports, his publicist Carleen Donovan revealed the news, but had no details other than his cause of death. However, his son, singer Robin Thicke, told Reuters (via the Los Angeles Times newspaper) that his father was playing hockey with another of his sons, 19-year-old Carter Thicke, when he suffered the heart attack. “I saw him a few days ago and told him how much I loved and respected him,” Thicke told the newspaper, adding that his father was an inspiration for his own musical career. “The good thing was that he was beloved and he had closure.”

Thicke, who hails from Kirkland Lake, ON, is the father of singer Robin Thicke. In addition to his role on Growing Pains, he was a game show host, leading the helm on such series as First Impressions, Animal Crack-Ups, Pictionary, and All New 3’s a Crowd. He was inducted into the Canada’s Walk of Fame in 2013.
