‘Power Rangers’ Reboot Drops Its First Look At Alpha 5, And It’s As Reboot-y As Expected

Did you enjoy the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers TV series as a child? Could you still spout off a list of the shows best villains to this very day? Were you stoked when it was announced that Breaking Bad actor Bryan Cranston was cast in the role of the Ranger’s leader and literal talking head Zordon in the upcoming live-action film? Did you even pre-order a copy of the Mighty Muffin Pounder Rangers porn parody on the off chance that it would reveal new fascinating tidbits on the series you grew up with and adored?

Well, depending on how you answered those questions, we have either some really cool or extremely depressing news for you. Whether you prefer your remakes, reboots and sequels as faithful representations of the source material or a complete butchery of everything you knew and loved about them will surely influence your response to the following concept art. Today, IGN gave us our first look at Alpha 5, Zordon’s quirky right-hand robot. As you can see, they chose to ditch the practical (not to mention familiar) for this CGI nightmare of a creature:

Maybe you don’t find this to be as awful looking as we do, but then again, we pretty much hated the gritty first teaser trailer that was dropped last month, too. Check it out and judge for yourself:

So what do you think? Does the fact that Bill Hader will be voicing Alpha 5 at least soften the blow of his new look? We’ll just have to find out when Power Rangers hits theaters on March 24, 2017.
