Sony’s First PS4 Pro Ad Doesn’t Mention 4K At All

The PS4 Pro is being billed as Sony’s first 4K console, yet the debut commercial for the upcoming system doesn’t mention the resolution whatsoever.

The new commercial boasts a retro theme, featuring the old PlayStation startup intro as well as the kind of hyperbolic vernacular that was so prevalent in 80s video game commercials (“Super Compact Mega Processor!”). However, despite the trailer staying true to its source of inspiration, it refrains from mentioning that the PS4 Pro is a 4K console. This is despite Sony already having failed at marketing the console during its disappointing reveal back in September, and there still being question marks surrounding its technical prowess.

While this debut trailer is pleasantly weird, considering that the console is the most powerful PlayStation console yet it’s curious that Sony wouldn’t advertise it as such. Not only does the ad fail to reference its 4K capabilities, but it also fails to show off any gameplay footage from the console aside from a short clip from Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare‘s zombie mode. It’s a questionable omission, and one that is unlikely to pique interest in the PS4 Pro ahead of its November 10 launch.

Although Sony will undoubtedly have a few more PS4 Pro commercials tucked up its sleeve, with the launch of the new console taking place in less than two weeks the company should really be pulling out all the stops to push its 4K gaming power at this stage. Hopefully future commercials will do a better job of highlighting its selling points.
