There’s a word for people who say they like to live in the moment and seize the day: idiots. Now, that isn’t always the case–specifically when you have a brain to back up your credo–but the guy in the following video is certainly no exception to the rule. All will be explained in due time, but first let’s check out that fateful waterfall jump:
Pretty cool looking, right? That rainbow at the end almost makes you cry it’s so beautiful. Wait a second, has he come back up yet, because the panic is slowly starting to sink in from up here. Perhaps a different angle will explain why:
And now onto why this guy is the biggest idiot ever. First things first: that drop is approximately 173 feet down. Shiloh Shahan, the 21-year-old California man who journeyed to the top of Kauai’s Wailua Falls with his buddy to make the impressive leap, said he made the decision on a whim. Pretty bright idea: “I decided, ‘I want to jump off of this.’ It was at a really pivotal point in my life. Everything was changing, and it felt like the right thing to do.”
It was not. David McGrath, the guy at the bottom who filmed the second video alongside his daughter, would likely be inclined to agree, considering they had to jump in and save Shanan’s concussed ass. “This guy escaped death,” McGrath explained to The Garden Island.

As further proof of Shanan’s mental state, even before the concussion, when asked by police if his jump was a suicide attempt, he responded “no, it was a calling.” He continued to tell the Tribune, “The cop asked me, ‘So it was something spiritual then?’ I said, ‘Yes. I didn’t mean to be disrespectful.’”
As icing on the stupidity cake, Shanan then refused medical treatment and went on his way. We’ll go ahead and assume the next time we hear about him in the news, it will be in the obituaries.
